History

Since February, 2008 the Friends of the Roc City Skatepark has been working in collaboration with the City of Rochester to realize construction of the first skatepark in the City of Rochester.

The Friends of the Roc City Skatepark is a grassroots effort made up of people passionate about building a skatepark. This includes members who skateboard, ride bikes, and folks who just believe a free public cement skatepark in Rochester makes a lot of sense!

The Friends of the Roc City Skatepark is not incorporated, and has been functioning as an initiative of another non-profit fiduciary agent called the Center for Popular Research, Education and Policy. We are currently working to become our own autonomous non-profit 501(c)(3)

All members of Friends of the Roc City Skatepark are volunteers.

A comprehensive archival record of every activity since the first presentation to the City of Rochester on February 9, 2008 has been maintained.

Currently, the Rochester skatepark is the longest open case pending at the Tony Hawk Foundation; a $10,000 grant award was made in December, 2008. The Tony Hawk Foundation has assigned a Program Office from the foundation to work with us and offer strategic direction.

As a board approved policy that was voted on and approved a quorum vote and in accordance with Roberts Rules of Order, at this stage all of the grant and gift money received is spent to keep awareness of the project high (tee shirts, stickers, special events). The gifts are not significant enough at this stage to build a skatepark, but we anticipate that will change with increased support from the City of Rochester.

The vision for funding for the construction of the skatepark includes a combination of local, state, and federal funding supplemented with private donations.
